How do I ...

Create a new team?

To create a new team from scratch, go to the main menu of the application, and:

  • On the iPad:Tap the plus button in the upper right corner. Here you can enter the team name, league, etc, then tap the players button, and enter each of your players.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Team Setup and Information button at the bottom, and then tap the Add button in the upper right. Here you can enter the team name, league, etc, then tap the players button, and enter each of your players.

Change team or player details?

To change an existing team, go to the main menu of the application, and:

  • On the iPad:Tap the Details button within the box for your team. Note:If your team does not show up, it might be marked as not active; to show it, tap the "All Teams" button in the upper right corner.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Team Setup and Information button at the bottom, and then tap the button for your team.

Choose a photo for my team?

To choose a photo for your team to display on the main menu (iPad only) and on the Team Information page, go to the Team Details, and tap the picture just under the first set of fields. This will bring you to the photo albums on your device; simply choose the one you want by tapping it.

Choose a photo for my players?

To choose a photo for your players, go into the Team Details, and tap each player, then tap on the picture just below the main set of fields. This will bring you to the photo albums on your device; simply choose the one you want by tapping it.

Specify which player statistics to track for my team?

You can specify player statistics that you wish to track for your team by first going into the Team Details, then tapping the Statistics button.

You will then be shown a list of statistics; if the statistic is blue and has a checkmark next to it, that means it is assigned to your team. To turn this assignment on or off, simply tap that statistic. You can also change the name or abbreviation of the statistic by tapping the blue arrow to the right of the statistic you wish to change, changing the information, then tapping Save.

If you wish to create your own custom statistic, tap the Edit button on the top right, then tap Add Statistic. From there you can enter the name, abbreviation, and whether or not to track the minute number for each occurrence of the statistic.

While in edit mode, you can also change the order in which the statistics appear by tapping and holding in the area on the right with 3 bars, then dragging that statistic to a new location, and letting go.

When you are finished making changes, tap the Done button.

Enter contact information for my players (or parents of players)?

Each player can have a contact associated with it, which is stored in the central address book for your device. If you update contact information in the built-in Contacts application, the changes will be reflected in CoachBob as well. To set this up, go into the Team Details, tap the players button, then tap the player you wish to change, then tap the Contact button. From there, you can choose an existing contact in your address book, or add a brand new contact.

Once you have chosen a contact, if that contact happens to have more than 1 phone number or email address, you can tap the phone number or email fields on the Contact Information panel, and then you will be presented with all phone numbers and email addresses associated with that contact. Simply tap the one you wish to use.

Also available when you tap on the name, phone number, or email address in the Contact Information panel, is the ability to edit the address book entry right there (just like in the built in Contacts application).

Once you are finished selecting the person, phone number, and email address, tap the Save Button to return to the Player Info panel, and tap Save again to save all your player changes.

Create a new season for my team?

Each team in the application is designed to represent a single season. You can, however, copy a previously existing team with all its players, to create a new season. To do this, go to the Team Details, and tap the Copy Team button. You will be prompted to confirm, so tap OK. The new team will now show up in the list, with a prefix of "Copy: " before the name. You can now change any details of the new copy that you wish without affecting the previous team/season.

Create a schedule of games for my team?

To create a schedule of games for your team, go to the main menu of the application, and:

  • On the iPad:Tap the Upcoming Games button within the box for your team. Note:If your team does not show up, it might be marked as not active; to show it, tap the "All Teams" button in the upper right corner.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Upcoming Games button with your team's name next to it. Note:If the Upcoming Games button with your team's name next to it does not appear, it might be marked as not active; to show it, tap the Team Setup and Information button, tap the button with your team's name on it, turn on the Active Now? switch, and tap Save.

From here, you can tap the Add button to create a new game, choose the date and time of the game, then enter any other details for that game that you wish to specify, and tap the save button.

Specify which players are responsible for bringing snacks for each game?

Each player can be assigned to a game to bring snacks. To set this up, go into the Team Details, tap the players button, then tap the player you wish to change, then tap the Snack button. You will then be presented with a list of all the games you have previously entered; tap on the game that player should bring snacks for, then tap Save.

Create a game for today that I have not previously set up?

To create a new game for today, go to the main menu of the application, and:

  • On the iPad:Tap the New Game for Today button
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Game: button with your team's name next to it.

At this point you will be brought directly into the game.

Produce a Team Information page with upcoming games schedule and player list with contacts?

You can produce a PDF file and email it, or print to any AirPrint compatible printer, this information by going into the Team Details, then tap the Compose button in the upper left to send an email, or tap the Action button (located right next to the Compose button), to print the Team Information page to your AirPrint compatible printer.

When you send the email, it will also have a file attached called games.ics - this file can be imported into your favorite calendar program and will add calendar events for all of the games you have set up.

Automatically add all scheduled games to my calendar?

You can send an email with the Team Information PDF file, as well as a file called games.ics - this file can be imported into your favorite calendar program and will add calendar events for all of the games you have set up. To send this email, go into the Team Details, then tap on the Compose button in the upper left to send an email.

How do I ...

Specify which players are in attendance?

To specify which players are present for the game:

  • On the iPad:If the device is in portrait mode, tap the Attendance button at the top next to the Clock & Score button. In landscape mode, the Attendance button is next to the Done button on the top left side.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Attendance tab at the bottom.

From here you can turn individual player attendance on (meaning present) and off (meaning absent). You can also tap the All button to mark all players as present at once.

Add a new lineup of players?

To add a new lineup of players, first, make sure you have specified which field layout to use for your team in the team details. Then:

  • On the iPad:Tap the Add button next to Lineup: on the upper right.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Positions tab at the bottom, tap the Lineup button on the upper right to choose the Lineup toolbar, then tap the Add button on the top left.

From here you can:

  • Manually assign each position by tapping the blue button for that position, choosing a player, and tapping Done
  • Automatically fill all open positions by tapping the Fill/Sub button, choosing Fill, and tapping the Go button
  • Substitute a certain number of players automatically by tapping the Fill/Sub button, choosing the number of players to sub, and tapping the Go button

When you are done making this lineup, press the Done button.

Change an existing lineup of players?

To change an existing lineup:

  • On the iPad:Tap the Edit button next to Lineup: on the upper right.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Positions tab at the bottom, tap the Lineup button on the upper right to choose the Lineup toolbar, then tap the Edit button on the top left.

From here you can:

  • Manually assign each position by tapping the blue button for that position, choosing a player, and tapping Done
  • Automatically fill all open positions by tapping the Fill/Sub button, choosing Fill, and tapping the Go button
  • Substitute a certain number of players automatically by tapping the Fill/Sub button, choosing the number of players to sub, and tapping the Go button

When you are done changing this lineup, press the Done button.

Move to a different lineup?

To move among the lineups you have created, simply swipe the main game screen left or right. The Lineup number at the top shows which lineup you are currently on. As with any iOS page control, you can also tap the left or right side of the dots to move backward and forward, respectively, among the lineups.

View who is substituting for whom at each position?

When you are looking at the lineup you are about to put on the field at substitution time (if you aren't there, first move to that lineup), tap the Show Subs button in the upper right.

Remove an existing lineup of players?

To remove an existing lineup, first select the lineup you wish to remove, then:

  • On the iPad:Tap the Delete button next to Lineup: on the upper right.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Positions tab at the bottom, tap the Lineup button on the upper right to choose the Lineup toolbar, then tap the Delete button on the top left.

You will be prompted to confirm, so just tap OK.

Remove a player who had to leave or can no longer play?

If a player gets injured or had to leave unexpectedly, and you had already assigned them to positions in future lineups, you can remove them from those positions by first going to the Game Attendance, then tapping the on/off switch to set them to Off (meaning absent). You will be prompted if you wish to remove them from all lineups starting at the one you were just in - tap Yes to remove them. (NOTE: if you weren't sitting on the correct lineup, you can say No to this question, turn the player's attendance back on, then move to the correct lineup, then go back and turn them off again).

For any future lineups that the player was assigned to, that position will now be marked as Open, which you can change manually or use the Fill feature to fill open positions.

See who all has played at a given position?

To see the history of who has played at a certain position, simply tap the position name on the main game screen.

See what all positions a given player has played?

To see which positions a player has played in this game, go to the Game Attendance, and tap on the player you wish to view (in any area other than the on/off switch).

Change the score of the game?

To change the score of the game:

  • On the iPad:In portrait mode, tap the Clock & Score button at the top; In landscape mode, the score is already available on the left side
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Score & Stats tab at the bottom

You can then use the + and - buttons next to the Us and Them labels to change the scores.

Record who scored each goal?

To enter who scored each goal:

  • On the iPad:In portrait mode, tap the Clock & Score button at the top; then tap the Goals button on the popup panel. In landscape mode, the score is already available on the left side - just tap the Goals button at the top. You can then tap the Change button next to each goal to choose from the player list. Tap anywhere outside of the popup windows to dismiss them.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Score & Stats tab at the bottom. If the Player Statistics button is on the screen, tap the tickmark button at the top to "flip" the view. You can then tap the Edit button next to each goal to choose from the player list, and then tap Done.

NOTE: This mechanism of recording who scored which goals is separate from the Player Statistics feature, and is only used in the Player Information panel.

Enter player statistics?

To enter player statistics:

  • On the iPad:In portrait mode, tap the Clock & Score button at the top; then tap the Player Statistics button. In landscape mode, the score is already available on the left side - just tap the Player Statistics button at the bottom.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Score & Stats tab at the bottom, then tap the Player Statistics button. NOTE: If the player statistics button is not there, and instead there are places to track who scored each goal, tap the tickmark button on the top right to "flip" the view.

You can then tap the player you want to enter statistics for, and you will then be able to enter the individual statistics using either the + and - buttons, or by typing directly into the field. For statistics that are tracked by minute, you can also tap the blue arrow on the right side to enter the minute number(s) for each individual goal/card/etc.

NOTE: If no statistics show up after selecting a player, you might not have any assigned to your team - see How to specify which statistics to track for my team for help on how to turn these on.

Get reminders when it is time to substitute?

To get popup reminders of when it is time to make substitutions, you can modify the Sub Interval in the team details - this field specifies the number of minutes in between reminders. If this field is left blank or does not contain a valid positive number, no reminders will be given. See Editing Team or Player Details for information on editing your team settings.

Use the whiteboard?

To use the Whiteboard feature:

  • On the iPad:In portrait mode, tap the WB button at the top center. In landscape mode, the WB button is located just above the left side of the playing field.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Positions tab at the bottom, then tap the Game button to show the game buttons at the top, then tap the WB button.

Once the whiteboard is up, simply draw on it with your finger. You can choose a different marker color at the top. When you are finished, tap the Done button to dismiss the whiteboard.

Make notes for the game, such as what to work on in practice?

To enter notes specific to this game, if you are still in the game, tap the Done button to go back to the main menu. From here:

  • On the iPad:Tap the Past Games button within the box for your team, tap the game you want to enter notes for, then tap the Game Notes button.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:From the main menu, tap the Past Games: button with the name of your team next to it, then tap the game you want to enter notes for, then tap the Game Notes button.

On this panel you can enter free form notes. Tap Done to save your changes.

How do I ...

Get an email summarizing the attendance and positions played by each player?

To send an email with this information:

  • On the iPad:If the device is in portrait mode, tap the Compose button at the top center. In landscape mode, the Compose button is located just above the right side of the clock and score panel.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Positions tab at the bottom, then tap the Game button at the top to show the game buttons toolbar, then tap the Compose button.

The standard email form will then appear, and you can enter the email addresses to send to.

View the game notes I made?

To view the game notes you made:

  • On the iPad:Tap the Past Games button within the box for your team, then choose the game, then tap the Game Notes button.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Past Games: button with your team name next to it, then choose the game, then tap the Game Notes button.

Get a summary of player statistics for a game?

To get a summary of player statistics for a game:

  • On the iPad:Tap the Past Games button within the box for your team, then choose the game you want to summarize, then tap the Statistics Summary button.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:Tap the Past Games: button with your team name next to it, then choose the game you want to summarize, then tap the Statistics Summary button.

You will then be shown the summary right on the screen of the device. You can also send an email by tapping the Compose button in the upper left; this will send an email with a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file attachment that you can import into your favorite spreadsheet program.

Get a summary of player statistics for the entire season?

To get a summary of player statistics for the entire season:

  • On the iPad:Tap the Season Statistics button within the box for your team.
  • On the iPhone/iPod Touch:From the main menu, tap the Season Stats: button with your team name next to it.

You will then be shown the summary right on the screen of the device. You can also send an email by tapping the Compose button in the upper left; this will send an email with a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file attachment that you can import into your favorite spreadsheet program.
